St Therese Mangere East Parish
Dear Parishioners,
We are joyfully celebrating the Ascension of the Lord this Sunday. Luke begins the Acts of the Apostles by going back to his gospel and to “everything Jesus had done and taught from the beginning.” Almost immediately he then goes on to the ascension, when a cloud takes Jesus from the apostles' sight. As at the beginning of Luke's gospel, so at the end of this reading from Acts, there is an angelic message full of hope and joy; and now the angels' message is that Jesus, who has been taken into heaven, will return.
By using these themes, Luke takes us from the beginning to the end and from the end to the beginning. The beginning of the Acts of the Apostles is the end of the gospel narrative, but the end heralds the beginning of the Church when the apostles will be “clothed with the power from on high”, that is, the gift of the Spirit. So the ascension is at the end of Luke's gospel and at the beginning of the Acts of the Apostles. It heralds the beginning of the Church. We are called to make it grow.
Celebration of St Anthony's Feast – Patronal Feast for St Anthony's Church
After consulting with the Parish Council, same as last year, we decided that the Feast of St Anthony of Padua will be celebrated as a big parish celebration on the Sunday 12th June 2022 at 9am mass. It was a successful celebration of St Anthony's last year. May I again invite you all, St Anthony's parishioners, to come together in one celebration to celebrate our parish feast. There will be NO Saturday 5pm mass on 11th June 2022.
Ascension blessings,
